The HEARTSAVER CPR/AED/FIRST AID course is for non-healthcare workers with limited or no medical training that need or desire to be trained in CPR/AED and Basic First Aid Training.

Typically, students that enroll in the HEARTSAVER CPR/AED/FIRST AID course are, childcare workers, teachers, camp counselors, coaches, babysitters, and anyone else in the general public. The HEARTSAVER CPR/AED/FIRST AID course is extremely flexible to help prepare people to respond to a cardiac arrest, choking incident, and first aid response.

 

Note 1: There is no written test requirement for the HEARTSAVER CPR/AED/FIRST AID course. Course is taught to the American Heart Association 2015 Standard.

Course length: CPR/AED = 3.0 +/- hours       FIRST AID = 3.0 +/- hours

This course is for non-healthcare workers (restaurant employees) with limited or no medical training to meet Massachusetts General Law 105 CMR 605.003 and Chapter 94 Section 305D “Approved Manual Choke-Saving Procedure”.

The goal of this course is to teach restaurant employees how to recognize a choking patron, and how to respond using the abdominal thrust (aka Heimlich Maneuver).

Course length: 2.0 +/- hours

Certificate is valid for: 2 Years

 

MA General Law Chapter 94 Section 305D

Section 305D. Each restaurant, having a seating capacity of twenty-five persons or more, shall have on its premises a device approved by the department of public health that is designed and intended for use in removing food which may become lodged in a person's throat or each such restaurant shall have on its premises, when food is being served, an employee trained in manual procedures approved by the department of public health to remove food so lodged in a person's throat. The department of public health shall adopt regulations listing all approved devices and manual procedures which it determines may be used effectively to remove food lodged in a person's throat. Each such restaurant shall make adequate provisions for insurance to cover employees trained in rendering such assistance. Any person, or employee of any person who, in good faith, volunteers to remove or attempts to remove such food in an emergency shall not be liable for any civil damages as a result of any acts or omissions by such person or employee in rendering such emergency assistance.
